Now eight rival lords have found a mysterious dragon’s egg, and each sees it as proof of their claim to the Dragon’s Throne. The Isles are still loaded with treasure and have become popular with adventures, merchants, scoundrels and sightseers. However, no one has seen a True Dragon in living memory. Legends tell of dragons who ruled the fabled Sea of Flames at the dawn of time. Only the most powerful leaders will prevail to reign over the Third Age of Wonders!ĭeluxe Edition - Dragon’s Throne ScenarioĪn extra large standalone scenario. Now, new heroes and villains rise to claim the world’s riches. This means that if your less experience troop is a slow melee will end in the back row ALWAYS and will literally be irrelevant unless you skip your first turn to reposition your troops. The banishment of the Wizard Kings ended the Second Age in Chaos. The real issue, however, is that the game does not allow the player to position/organize his troops outside combat in any way and instead position the troops automatically according to their ranks/level. This together with the fact that defending units always start combat means that in an offline campaing the player will always start second the combat because it will be the attacker. While the player requires an economy to maintain his troops, the enemies appear from spawners and as usual in strategic games the units to the ai are already given as if the ai was a cheating dullard. This game is based on the fact that the player aggresively attacks enemies positioned in the map becaues otherwise he is swamped (since in the scenario you have less initial resources and cities and units that the ai enemies). Nevertheless I can see myself giving another chance to this game some time latter. Overall, this game has a lot of flaws, but it has a charm. For example, 3 Shadow Stalkers (tier 3) most of the time kill full dwarven army unless it has few Manticore Riders (tear 4). Some units are clearly OP against certain factions. Backstab/flanking mechanics are ridicolous. Walls are a joke since most of the units can either scale them or totally ignore them. Actually, there aren't many occasions, when you can use terrain to your advantage. Futhermore, high-tier units and heroes are much stronger than low-tier ones and you can't outplay them by using some cunning tactics. What's more, any game, which specializes on tactical gameplay will wipe the floor with AW. Tactical battles would be ok-ish if player could position his units before the battle. In addition, there isn't many options to develop your cities not as barracks. In both cases millitary units is all that you need to produce. You have Civ-like map experience, but it's shallow since you either rush your enemies at the beggining or you will be swamped by endless hordes of Shadow Stalkers. The problem is that AW doesn't excel at anything. I would say that this game is a mixture of King's Bounty and Civilization series with AI from Shogun 2. I have mixed feelings regarding this game (played only in solo).Īge of Wonders III (AW) provides unique gaming experience.
